In my last post, I was describing my visit to an ‘erg’ – the naturally occurring seas of sand which sometimes appear in desert countries. Here’s the second (and last) part of this description – and the final entry in this ‘Algeria’ series of posts.

Let me ask you all a question. What is an erg? Here’s what the dictionary says.

As I said in the last post, oases are magical sorts of places, with their existence being so seemingly impossible. But this leads naturally to the question: ‘Why are they possible?’, or more specifically, ‘Where does that water come from?’ Well, it doesn’t come from the sky – at least, not directly. It comes from the ground. Here is the relevant passage from my book – but this is quite a technical passage, giving some science, so there are many difficult words.

經常有學生來諮詢課程時問我～Andrew老師是否會教報考雅思一般組的學生？ The answer is 'Yes.'  Andrew老師從西元1993年就開始專職從事雅思教學，當時台灣還沒有任何雅思補習班，老師幫兩家補習班設立了他們的雅思課程，西元2009年2月老師幫助幾個英國人成立了另一個雅思補習班，他在此補習班當主管時，每當他訓練一個新老師，他都會教新老師如何教雅思一般組的學生，報考雅思一般組和學術組考試基本上不同的只在作文一，一般組的作文一是撰寫書信，而學術組的作文一考的是圖表，其他像作文二、聽、說和閱讀，基本上應考技巧都是一樣的，差異只在於一般組的試題比較簡單XD

Andrew老師的雅思 ( 英文 ) 補習費用絕對是坊間最便宜的，坊間的英文補習班不管是成人英語還是兒童英語團班起跳都是至少一個小時500元，而且還不是小班制呢！同學們如果報名 Andrew 老師的雅思課程 ( 平日班的寫作聽力課程 + 閱讀口說課程 )，課程總時數82個小時，學費30,500元，平均每小時學費只有372元；假日班課程總時數78個小時（ 由於課程時間安排的關係，少了最後一堂聽力課，不過聽力技巧 Andrew 老師在２堂聽力課中各教一半，跟平日班比只是少了一堂聽力複習但這並不會影響到同學們的學習效果 )，學費30,000元，平均每小時學費只有385元喔！BTW, 舊生重複報名相同課程，除了老師會更改上課內容之外，平日班每個課程費用可享有500元優惠折扣，假日全科班可享有1000元優惠折扣喔！坊間有台籍老師48個小時的課程收費將近三萬元, 每小時均價約620元, 其他台籍老師每小時收費也都超過$550, 但是對於雅思考試的評分標準究竟中師還是具備特殊身分的外師比較清楚相信同學們應該很清楚才對。

Andrew老師從1993年到現在已經幫四家補習班建立了雅思課程（ 幫他們設計課程、寫模擬考測驗題目，以及訓練老師…等 )，而且全台灣沒有人像Andrew老師一樣有如此豐富的教學和考官經驗，而且老師也是目前台灣唯一的劍橋教師訓練師哦！我們上課的教材全部都是Andrew老師寫的，老師目前已經寫了6本的實用雅思系列書，目前在寫第7本的雅思系列書 ~ 聽力書，因為聽力書完成之後還要錄音，同學們上聽力課時老師會發講義給你們，如果想要回家練習可以買老師的模擬試題書回家練習哦！

After all the hustlers in Morocco, Algeria was a wonderful change. As soon as I crossed the border, I discovered that the people were ‘normal’ – which is not to say that they were all nice, in fact, I would be mugged in Algiers. But the people and culture in Algeria were not ‘spoilt’ by decades of mass tourism. Thus, the crowds at the border just regarded me as another person, not as someone from whom to trick money. In Algeria, I was once again just a nameless face in the crowd, ignored by everyone – which is exactly what I wanted to be.
