‘Resorts to’ is for bad actions – for example, ‘to resort to crime’.

Many teenagers smoke without awareness of the risk.

 

  1. I wish I can get back home as soon as possible.

I hope I can get back home as soon as possible.

 

‘Wish’ is for unreal desires, and needs to be combined with a past form (to show a present unreality).

 

  • I wish I were rich [now]
  • I wish I could be better at chess.
  • I wish I didn’t have to work so hard.

 

‘Hope’ is for real desires, and is combined with a present form (to show present  or future desires).

 

  • I hope I can finish this on time.
  • I hope one day I can be a successful writer.
  • I hope this typhoon doesn’t interfere with my classes.
